Anit Mukherjee

I am a Senior Lecturer at Kings College, London.Previously, I was an Associate Professor at S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
I joined RSIS after a post-doctorate at the Centre for the Advanced Study of India (CASI), University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University. From 2010-2012, I was also a Research Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi. Currently, I am also working as a Non- Resident Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP) and as a Non-Resident Visiting Scholar at the Center for the Advance Study on India (CASI).
In a previous avatar, I served in the Indian Army for nine years and am a graduate of the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla.
My research focuses on civil-military relations, defence reforms and India's foreign and security policy. My most recent book is The Absent Dialogue: Politicians, Bureaucrats, and the Military in India (Oxford University Press, 2019) which examines civil-military relations and military effectiveness in India.

Currently, I am working on a co-authored book (with Walter C. Ladwig) on India's national security policies.
